The Sisters of St Joseph Lochinvar announce the sudden and unexpected death
of their Congregation Leader, Carmel,
on Saturday, 25 January, 2025,
in Lake Macquarie Private Hospital, Gateshead.
Carmel was in her 79th year,
the 58th year of religious profession.
Carmel was the second child of Ted and Mary (nee Owens), (both decd.),
sister to Brian, Julie and Owen.
She was a Josephite woman of great strength, courage and unwavering determination, a passionate advocate for justice and a tireless champion of those in need.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in the Sacred Heart Cathedral,
841 Hunter St. Newcastle West on Monday, 10 February at 10.30am.

Following Mass, refreshments will be available in the Southern Cross Hall within the cathedral campus.
The Rite of Committal will take place in the Sisters’ section of the Catholic Cemetery, Lochinvar, at 2.30pm.
